WhatsApp to Stop Working on Nokia Symbian, BlackBerry OS on June 30
As Announced earlier, WhatsApp will end its support for old Nokia and Blackberry phones on June 30. The chat app had announced last year that it will end its support for BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40, and Nokia S60 operating systems on June 30.
“we can soon be finishing assist for certain devices. On June 30, 2017, we are not able to guide the subsequent platforms: BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40 and Nokia Symbian S60,”
The company said that these old mobile platforms didn’t offer the kind of capabilities company required to expand the app’s features in future. “While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future,” it had noted.
The Facebook-owned company has advised that anyone with the above-mentioned older platforms who want to keep chatting with friends via WhatsApp will need to upgrade to a newer operating system or a new device.
WhatsApp also clarifies that currently there’s no way users can transfer your chat history between platforms though the company will provide the option to send your chat history attached to an email, if requested by users. You can head to WhatsApp’s Support page to understand the steps.
” Once you have one of these devices, simply install WhatsApp and verify your phone number on the new device. Keep in mind that WhatsApp can only be activated with one phone number on one device at a time.”
Also, currently there is no way to transfer your chat history between platforms. WhatsApp suggests to mail the chat history to an email.
For Android users: Open the chat> Menu> More>Email chat> Attach media or not. You chat history will be emailed with a .txt document attachment. In case you select to attach media, your most recent media sent will be added as attachments. When sending with media, you can send up to 10,000 latest messages. Without media, you can send 40,000 messages. These constraints are due to maximum email sizes. iPhone users can use iCloud backup feature to store their chat history.
